Why I Use Colour Me Bronze

At SunSoul Beauty, one of the standout solutions I use is Colour Me Bronze Professional — a high-performance, Australian-made spray tan range that’s exclusive to my kit here in New Hampshire.

This solution is ethanol/alcohol-free and packed with skin-loving ingredients, so it dries quickly without stripping the skin. Clients immediately notice how soft and smooth their skin feels after application—and even after the first rinse. The results speak for themselves: a flawless, streak-free finish with a beautiful, even fade that lasts 7–10 days without patchiness.

What truly sets Colour Me Bronze apart is its custom-blending capability. Using a system of unique base colors—red, green, chocolate, blue, and black—I can create personalized blends (known as TANtails) to match your skin tone and desired depth. From warm earthy tones to rich violet or soft browns, the combinations are endless—and your tan will always be uniquely yours.

These are adaptable 2–8 hour solutions, meaning they can be rinsed after 2 hours for a subtle glow or worn for up to 8 hours (or overnight) for deeper color. It’s all about flexibility and convenience—designed by a professional spray tanner, for both artists and clients.

Let’s Talk DHA: Customizing Your Glow

At SunSoul Beauty, I offer DHA levels ranging from 14% to 20% to help tailor each tan to your skin’s unique needs. But here's the truth most people don't know:

Higher DHA does not always mean darker results.

How deep your tan develops depends on your body chemistry, skin type, undertones, and how your skin processes the solution—not just the DHA percentage.

In fact, someone with very fair skin may achieve a richer, deeper tan with a 12% or 14% DHA than they would with a higher percentage like 16% or 20%. That’s why a personalized approach is key, and why I take time to assess your skin before every session.

What is Bronzer?

Bronzers are cosmetic dyes or colorants added to sunless tanning solutions.
They give clients an instant tan appearance, but this color is temporary and will rinse off with their first shower.

Think of bronzer like a filter — it shows your client immediate payoff, helps guide your application, but it’s not the real tan.

Common Bronzer Ingredients:

D&C Red 40 (CI 16035)
Yellow 5 (CI 19140)
Blue 1 (CI 42090)
Caramel color

These ingredients help create different base tones (olive, violet, green, etc.) to counteract undertones and minimize orange hues.

Bronzer ≠ Final Tan

Bronzers do not tan the skin — they don’t react with it.
The real tan comes from DHA development over time.
That pretty color your client sees right away? It’s mostly makeup.
Bronzers will rinse off after a few days, but at this point the DHA will be fully developed.

The Rinse-Off Reality

After the first rinse, most of the bronzer goes down the drain.
Clients often panic because they think their tan disappeared — but remind them:
👉 “Girl, that was just bronzer. Your real tan is still developing underneath.”

🚫 "Organic Spray Tan” = Marketing Buzz, Not Science

Spoiler: There's no such thing as a truly organic spray tan.
Let’s break it down:

🧪 The Core Ingredient (DHA) Isn’t Organic

The active ingredient in every spray tan — Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) — is a lab-processed chemical, even if derived from natural sources like sugar beets or cane.
While you may see “Eco-Cert” DHA or “naturally derived DHA”, these terms do not mean it's certified organic by USDA standards.
Bottom line: There is no USDA-certified organic DHA. Period.

🚫 Why “Organic Spray Tan” Is Misleading:

Organic labeling laws only apply to agricultural products — not cosmetics or over-the-counter topicals like spray tans.
Even if a solution contains some organic extracts (like aloe or green tea), that doesn’t make the entire formula organic.
Many “organic” labeled tans still include synthetic bronzers, preservatives, and emulsifiers — because they need to work, stay stable, and not grow mold in your spray gun.

🧼 What They Really Mean:

When a brand markets a tan as “organic,” they often mean:

Contains some organic extracts (like chamomile or aloe)
Free of parabens, sulfates, or certain synthetic preservatives
Fragrance-free or essential-oil scented
Vegan / cruelty-free
Uses EcoCert DHA (which is still chemically processed, just with certain safety standards)

So it’s not nothing — but it’s not organic.

⚠️ The Problem:

“Organic spray tan” makes clients assume the product is safer, healthier, or more effective — which isn’t always true.
These buzzwords can undermine trust when clients experience allergic reactions, poor results, or uneven fades and wonder why their “all-natural” tan failed.
Spray tan artists using these terms without understanding them may face credibility issues or even legal problems depending on advertising regulations.
